The Arts

Our students grow in their appreciation of beauty by exploring the fine and performing arts.

The fine and performing arts have long been an essential part of our cultural heritage. From Shakespeare, to Bach, to Rembrandt, whether in theater, music, or art, these disciplines have profoundly shaped the world we have inherited. In lower school our students study composers, participate in regular art and music classes, and perform skits. In the upper school, students take fine arts classes, and every student participates in our annual Shakespeare-in-a-Week performance as well as choir.

Shakespeare in a Week

Shakespeare in a Week is a unique theater program where our entire upper school joins together to put on a Shakespeare play over the course of a week. While students audition and memorize lines in the weeks leading up to the performance, we take a break from our typical curricular work to focus on constructing a set, baking and preparing concessions, setting up lights and sound as we transform our multipurpose room into a theater in the round.  Every student finds a place to serve, whether by acting, constructing, designing,

Dulcis Cantus

Dulcis Cantus is a extra-curricular choir that is open to students from fifth through eighth grade. This choir builds on the basics which students are learning in music class and challenges them to stretch themselves as they seek to grow their musical ability. Dulcis Cantus performs at a variety of events: from our school festivals, to Cardinals baseball games, naturalization ceremonies, and local retirement homes.

Upper School Choir

We believe a musical education is important for every student. Thus, each of our upper school students participates in a choir which meets multiple times per week as they learn the pieces they will perform our at festivals throughout the year, including our Harvest Festival, Lessons and Carols, and the Evening of Excellence. The choir also performs at our senior commencement ceremony, where they send off our graduates with a hymn of blessing.

Fine Arts

The fine arts are woven throughout our curriculum. In lower school there is a regular art class where students learn to sketch and paint. In the upper school students continue to develop their skills in art classes, while also having the opportunity to put them to use in a variety of context, such as in set design for our Shakespeare in a week production.
